Employment Assistance Programs (EAP)

ClinPsych provides psychological support and consulting services to private and government organisations in the form of Employment Assistance Programs (EAPs). We are also the South Australian affiliate of the large national provider Assure Programs.  ClinPsych can offer “ad-hoc” EAP services to small to medium organisations that do not require a contractual arrangement. We aim to work with our organisational clients to understand their unique culture, industry and operational challenges to deliver an effective solutions focussed service that benefits both employees and the organisation.

Executive and Management coaching

Executive and Management coaching at ClinPsych is a result-oriented process, which aims to enhance work performance, self-directed learning, and personal growth. Coaching is a goal directed process delivered in the context of the client’s organisation.  Every leader has a unique profile of strengths and areas for development. Coaching assists to realise potential and build enduring personal and professional skills.

Coaching is usually conducted in face-to-face meetings at a location and time convenient to the client. The frequency and regularity of coaching sessions depends on the particular needs of the client and is negotiated with the client at the outset of the coaching process. Additional phone consultation is available to clients as needed to provide timely support and advice in responding to challenging situations. The coaching relationship usually extends over a number of months (typically 6 – 12) with regular fortnightly or monthly one to two hour sessions.

A personalised coaching workbook is prepared for each Coaching client that includes specific goals formulated for sessions and outcome measures.  ClinPsych coaching enhances performance through facilitating desired changes in behaviour and emotional competencies. All ClinPsych consultants who provide coaching have at least six years specialist training in psychology, hold Masters level qualifications, and have had at least five years experience in providing organisational psychology services. As registered psychologists, our consultants possess specialised expertise in a range of areas essential to the effective practice of coaching.

Resilience and Wellbeing

Much of the Australian workforce now operates in roles that require a significant proportion of emotional labour. They may be exposed to potentially distressing information and images or they are required to work with others who are angry, distressed, frustrated or experiencing significant physical or psychological ill health. Sustained high performance in these roles can be a challenge.

ClinPsych has a range of services to support organisations to assess resilience in staff and to build capability in existing teams. These include:

  • Diagnostic assessment – conducting organisation wide resilience audits include Culture Audits and Workplace Behavioural Safety screens.
  • Occupational health: safety culture, behavioural safety, integrated stress management programs, drug and alcohol programs and fitness for work
  • Coaching or training for leaders in how to intervene early to ensure a resilient workforce (including identification of duty of care requirements)
  • Coaching, counselling or training for staff in how to build and maintain personal resilience (Psychological first aid)
  • Workplace trauma management

Team Development

The ClinPsych approach to team development is founded on our belief that high performing teams are created and maintained by the ongoing applied efforts of the group members. The success of a work group not only depends on the effort that is put into getting the work done, but in evaluating and improving the way the group functions. We aim to move teams beyond traditional and sometimes superficial ‘team building’ to a genuine level of team development. Our expertise in assessment allows us to identify both individual and team strengths and development areas.

We work with teams at all stages of development to help them assess their current state of functioning and bring out the best in all members to ensure self development, positive communication, leadership skills and the ability to work closely together to problem solve.

During our Team Development Processes, we examine such areas as:

  • Role clarity
  • Intra-group & inter-group effectiveness
  • Conflict management
  • Alignment of individual/team goals and values
  • Decision making
  • Dealing with difficult topics
  • Team leadership
  • Feedback and evaluation

Prior to any team development intervention, we will need to understand your needs and determine the issues relevant to your team so that any intervention can be tailored to produce the outcomes you are seeking. This occurs through discussion with senior leadership and managers, and, for more complex team dynamics, focus group discussions with team members in order to tailor the best team-development day or program possible. Our goal in the delivery of these programs is the enhancement of morale, as well as tangible improvement in productivity and service delivery standards.

Conflict management and Mediation

Our skilled and experienced psychologists bring a range of skills and approaches to managing conflict to ensure not only the settlement of the dispute, but also that involved parties are able to shift toward more constructive workplace interaction. We initially assess the nature of the conflict, including the organisational context, to determine the most effective intervention strategy and employ a range of approaches to resolve conflict.

When all involved parties are committed to resolution, have a level of self awareness regarding their own individual contribution to the conflict and feel able to express their opinions in a safe forum, then a facilitated Mediation is usually chosen as the initial intervention. Our approach is a combination of facilitative and transformative mediation, providing both a safe, and managed process for discussion of issues as well as education and information in order to increase the individual’s skills so as to not only resolve the current issue but also reduce the chances of future conflict.

When one or more parties within a dispute are uncertain of their ability to represent their own views in mediation, or where there is a significant power differential between the parties, it can be helpful to have a short series of individual coaching sessions prior to a mediation. These sessions focus on clarifying the issues so the individual can represent themselves more effectively in facilitated mediation and developing the personal and emotional management skills required to be effective in this setting.

Grievance Investigation

When formal grievances or complaints of serious misconduct have been received a more detailed investigative process can assist decision makers within an organisation to confidently determine disciplinary or other action. Our skilled and qualified psychologists provide an impartial objective service to:

  • Identify the allegations and organisational requirements and expectations
  • Develop an investigation plan in conjunction with key stakeholders
  • Review all relevant organisational policies and procedures
  • Collect, collate information and supporting data through interviews, review of records and other materials as appropriate
  • Formulate a report with clear recommendations and points for consideration.

Our investigative processes can also be used to inform policy and procedure review and update your approach.
